What would happen if Cypher was right?

Matrix is an endless source of opportunities for reflection. I have read some articles where the authors thought the possibility of Cypher being right [the traitor of the group led by Morpheus, lived in the movie by Joe Pantoliano]. Just to remember and understand better what I am talking about, Cypher sold himself to the agents of the Matrix and delivery secrets of the group of resistance that had just incorporated Neo [Keanu Reeves] to their activities. This action resulted in the death of a women of the group and weakened the actions envisaged by Morpheus [Lawrence Fishburne]. By doing so, he refers to his defection as a conscious choice, in which he chooses the illusion of the Matrix [even if it is only an effect of electronic inductions on the human brain] because it guarantees them comfort, satisfaction, wealth and benefits that the real world, where he and his former colleagues worked as authentic soldiers was dirty, harmful, uncomfortable and devoid of any apparent benefit. Only freedom does not matter ... In the Matrix he could eat steak [even if this was virtual], while in the battle of mankind against the machines everyone was deprived of tasty food... Cypher had chosen the Blue Pill ...

Imagine yourself in the skin of Cypher... This is certainly not an exercise that people like to do ... Nobody wants to be Judas... Everybody wants to be perceived and seen as a loyal friend moved by noble causes... But in our lives, many times, aren't we making choices similar to Cypher's?

The practical meaning of our existences in several cases [in the majority to be more exact] compels us to rational choices. Our brains search all the time for what would be the most correct and appropriate ways to our interests and possibilities. When we make those choices it is not always that we can concile our most basic and pressing interests [financial, for example] with ethical principles of citizenship in which we believe...

That's what, in a way, leads people to think more in the power of money than in defending human rights or the nature and makes them associate to projects in which they manufacture weapons or ruin forests... And how do they justify this positions and actions? Saying that the share of responsibility in their shoulder regarding a war or the emergence of deserts in places where before there were large forests is minimal, because they are just following somebody else's orders to ensure their survival ...

How to resolve this dilemma? Assuming that we Cypher to more than Neo or Morpheus for? Or reflecting [and acting within the premises of these ideas arise] in greater depth about our options to choose the paths more balanced, where we reconcile survival and ethics ...
